Meet Our Vendors: Geni’s Ethiopian Corner

One market business that was severely missed during the height of COVID-19 restrictions was Geni’s Ethiopian Corner. We are inspired by their dedication to sourcing local ingredients for their delicious dishes that tantalize our senses, fill our tummies, and strengthen our local food economy. 

Geni’s Ethiopian Corner is a family-owned business that took shape here in Seattle. Chef Meeraf Sinton and her husband Jonathan Sinton conceived of Geni’s Ethiopian when they realized how secluded Ethiopian restaurants are in Seattle, the majority clustered together in just a few neighborhoods. Tapping into Meeraf’s lifelong passion for sharing the cuisine she grew up loving, the two created a business model that would introduce Seattleites to Ethiopian food. We know first hand that many of our market shoppers had never tried Ethiopian food before tasting Geni’s, and they quickly became converts of their new favorite cuisine. 

Meeraf Sinton hails from Addis Abiba, Ethiopia, and is a long-time cook who combines cooking styles from a number of regions in Ethiopia. Her husband Jonathan Sinton is originally from Dublin, Ireland, and his background in sales proved useful in helping to get Geni’s Ethiopian off the ground. They are dedicated to investing extra time and money to fulfill their personal commitment to high-quality ingredients and the most authentic experience of Ethiopian home cooking possible, often a time-intensive process.

When markets aren’t in full swing, Geni’s offers special pre-order and pick-up days typically comprised of a multi-course meal. We love an excuse to make a weeknight feel like an extra special feast!
